A CALL for calm was made as angry community members gathered at the Galeshewe circle on Tuesday afternoon, baying for the blood of the man accused of assaulting 15-year-old Thuto Moitse, who died in hospital two days later.

It is alleged that the man assaulted Thuto on Friday last week after she apparently became involved in a fight with his son. She died in hospital Monday.

On Tuesday, the community heeded a call made on social media to assemble at the Galeshewe circle at 5pm in order to march to the local police station to demand justice for Thuto and that the suspect be arrested.

Community members, most of whom were young people, gathered at the circle but no march took place. Instead, they were addressed by the crime-fighting group Operation Wanya Tsotsi following which there was a prayer and some of them then dispersed.

The community members were urged to be patient and to wait for the post-mortem results to determine the cause of death of the teenager.

Many community members, however, remained at the Galeshewe circle singing and chanting.

Anyone with more information on the incident was urged to report to the Galeshewe police station on Thursday at 8am.
