Residents from the flats said they heard a loud explosion and smoke coming from the first floor.

RESIDENTS of Kimtown, along with employees of Van Zyl Vleis butchery and Diamond Security, were evacuated from their buildings after reports of an explosion within the Kimtown flats.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud blast and seeing smoke emanating from the first floor of the building. Emergency services, including the Kimberley Fire Brigade, responded promptly to the scene to ensure the safe evacuation of all three buildings.

As a precautionary measure, De Beers Road, which leads to the De Beers neighbourhood, has been temporarily closed to traffic.
