THE BODY of a newborn baby was found concealed in a black bag in the yard of a house in Sontlaba Street, Galeshewe on Friday morning.

The owner of the house Ingrid Zikali said she went to inspect the refuse bag that had appeared in her yard at around 8am on August 26.

“The body of the baby fell out of the bag when I picked it up. It was a baby boy and his umbilical cord had been cut already. He was fully formed and was not covered in any blood or body fluids – he was clean.”

She found it strange that his body had been wrapped in a rag that she usually used to clean the house.

“I usually hang the cloth outside to dry overnight. It was a shock to see the baby. No one was expecting a baby in my household.”

Neighbours noted that the house was close to a number of shanties in the area.

“Anyone could have dropped off the bag here. This was an angel child, how does someone discard of a baby?”

The police were on the scene.

Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Kock said the Kagisho police were investigating a case of concealment of birth. “An elderly lady discovered a refuse bag with a foetus inside her yard and contacted the police. The discovery was made on Friday, August 26. No arrests have been made yet. The investigation continues.”
