The Public Protector, Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane describes Northern Cape Executive Council’s intervention attempts into addressing service delivery problems in Kimberley, as merely putting ’make-up on a wound’.
FOLLOWING an oversight visit to Greenpoint, the R31-sewage plant, Robert Mangaliso Hospital in Kimberley on Thursday, then ending with a meeting with the Northern Cape Premier, Dr Zamani Saul and his Executive Members on Friday, the Public Protector, Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane described the provincial executive council’s attempts into addressing service delivery problems in the city, as merely putting “make-up on a wound”.
Mkhwebane said the provincial government and the Sol Plaatje Municipality have been dragging their feet with permanent solutions to solve the city’s sewage, water and roads challenges.
She said neither Saul nor the executive officials from the local municipality had shared any information regarding the R500-million which was budgeted to address service delivery challenges in the city.
Mkhwebane advised Speakers to carry-out their duties and promote a sense of accountability in the executive when the findings of reports from her office are not implemented.
