An accused has been sentenced to eight years for attempted rape

A 32-year-old man was received eight years imprisonment in the Carnarvon Regional Court on Monday after he pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted rape.

Northern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the incident took place on December 12 2020 when Klaas Beukes entered the complainant’s house and undressed her.

“The complainant was sleeping at the time. Her husband entered the house and caught the accused red-handed in the act. Beukes escaped but was later arrested. He was denied bail and remained in police custody until his court appearance.”

He added that Beukes was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Provincial Head of Family violence, Child protection and Sexual Offence Unit, Brigadier Nicky Mills applauded the investigating officer Sergeant Marlon Eksteen for his meticulous investigation.
