Suspect arrested after allegedly tying up Upington woman and robbing her

A 31 year old man was arrested shortly after he robbed a woman and tied her up.

A 31-year-old man was arrested shortly after he allegedly robbed a woman and tied her up.

Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Omphile Masegela said on Tuesday that the woman, who was believed to be alone at home at approximately 11.30am on October 3, was tied up and robbed of cash and jewellery.

“The police were alerted about the incident and responded immediately. Upon arrival the suspect had already fled the scene. The police launched a manhunt in the vicinity and found the suspect hiding a few houses from the crime scene.”

She stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect could be linked to other burglaries in the area.

“The suspect is in police custody and is expected to appear in court soon.”

The Upington acting station commander Colonel Gert Jobs lauded the members for the swift arrest.
