MEMBERS of Kathu crime prevention group 2 responded swiftly to a complaint about a bicycle theft in progress in Onderwysers Park in Kathu on Thursday.

The members arrested a 38-year-old male suspect who they caught in the veld behind the Game store at the Kathu Mall.

Police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien said the “alert and vigilant” members recovered a Raleigh Apex A900 bicycle valued at R6,500.

“The suspect was charged with possession of suspected stolen property and will appear in the Kathu Magistrate’s Court,” said Gamieldien.

She warned that the police will continue to “tighten the grip on criminals”, especially during the festive season.
