Vryburg men and Harties women pairs scoop Intervaal titles

THE VRYBURG Men’s Bowls Club along with the senior Women’s team from Hartswater Bowls Club took top honours in last weekend’s 2021 Intervaal Men’s and Women’s Bowls pairs championship tournament which was held in Vryburg.

Tournament co-ordinator Jacques Swanepoel said several other teams from the sub district also took part in the event.

In the end, the one men’s side from Vryburg and the women’s side from Hartswater took top honours and another top five teams from the tournament progressed to take part in Northern Cape Pairs Top 16 next week in Kimberley.

The teams confirmed for the championship are: Schweizer-Reneke (Laura Fouché and Suzette van Wyk), Vryburg (Manda Schoon and Janetha Steyn), Harstwater (Anita Palmer, Suzette Visser, Bennie DuPlessis, Deon Keyser). Seniors – Hartswater (Elanie de Kock and Lizette Du Toit, Giepie Nel and Wihan Smit, Bloemhof (Rico and Johan Mcleod, Fanie Smit, Gert Tolmay)

The venue for this event will be confirmed in the course of the week, but it could be either Beaconsfield or Sol Plaatje bowls club, according to Swanepoel.

The winning side from Vryburg’s skip was Christo van Rensburg who was supported by his lead André Steyn. The Women’s side’s skip was Chrissie van Niekerk and her lead was Ria van Wyk.
