A TEN-man Greenpoint Young Pirates team roared to an early two goal lead in the first half of their match against Donkerhoek Force FC in a Sol Plaatje Masters Football League fixture at the Sweepers grounds yesterday.

Pirates completely outplayed a full squad of Force and eventually finished the match with a 3-1 rout. Pirates forwards Abraham Mokwena and Walter van Wyk helped their team to that quick 2-0 lead early on in the first half.

Force had themselves to blame, they were careless up front and failed to convert as many as four glaring goal chances during the opening half.

Force came back strongly after the restart and were rewarded with a goal from the penalty spot.

Pirates were quick to recover though, and soon after the restart the lanky Johannes Koopman latched on to a loose ball from a goal area mê* ée, and nudged the loose ball over the goal line.

The game ended with Pirates firmly in the driving seat as eventual 3-1 winners.

In the follow-up game Colville United raced to a 4-2 win over Crusaders at the same grounds.

Claudy Meyer and Rodney Rowan each contributed a brace to the United goals tally while Ian Vosloo and Piet Hlatshwayo took up the slack with a goal each for Crusaders.
