NC lose encounter.

The Northern Cape Cricket Under-19 team took on South Westerns Districts in their opening fixture, a time cricket match in the prestigious Khaya Majola Cricket Week in Pietermaritzburg yesterday. The SWD team managed to win the encounter after a good performance with both bat and ball.

SWD won the toss and elected to bat first. They racked up 231/8 in their 65 overs with Heath Richards (117), Jhedli van Briesies (51), Lleyton Avonuur (20) and Johann Muller (20 not out) making the most of the conditions.

NCC’s Elrich Cloete (3/87) and Boitumelo Melesi (3/51) were the top bowlers for their team.

Northern Cape did not fare too well in their first innings, being bowled out for a meagre 254 in 58.1 overs, 79 runs behind. Orapeleng Motlhoaring with a patient 64 from 106 balls was the top-scorer.

The only other batsman to really trouble the scorers was Joshua Barends with 40.

The best bowler for South Western Districts was Richards who took five wickets while only having one run was scored off his bowling.

Meanwhile, the last two matches for the senior Northern Cape Cricket team in the CSA Three and One Dayers both ended without a single ball being bowled this past weekend, due to good rainfall in Pietermaritzburg.
