The Northern Cape Cricket team will be licking their wounds after a less than profitable trip down to Oudtshoorn this past week.

The visitors were blown away in yesterday’s CSA Provincial one-day Challenge when they were skittled for 88 in 31.2 overs. Only skipper Farhaan Sayanvala (26), Grant Mokoena (25) and Aubrey Swanepoel (13) reached double figures in a dismal batting display.

In reply the hosts knocked off the required runs in just 16.2 overs, reaching 90/3 at a canter. Neil Hornbuckle (43 off 40 balls, 3x4s, 3x6s) and MJ de Kock (33 off 26 balls, 4x4s, 1×6) made it look easy as they sent the Northern Cape team home with lots to think about.

The NCC team had, however, done well to dig the fat out of the fire in their Pool B, CSA Three-Day Provincial Cup match that ended on Saturday. Batting second, after NCC could just post 213 in their first innings, the hosts put on a massive 452/6 declared, with tons from Kirwin Christoffels (106), Jean du Plessis (113) and Obus Pienaar (150 not out), before sending the visitors in to bat again.

NCC had dug in and managed to reach 262/6, with Luthando Mnyanda (55), Swanepoel (50) and Tristan Traugott (51) all making good stands, before the match was called off after 105 overs.

Northern Cape Cricket need to do something about their performance on the road this season, and they will probably have to admit that they have themselves to blame for some poor results thus far this season.
