THIS past Saturday saw the second year that Standard Bank has partnered with Sol Plaatje University to present the SPU Vice-Chancellor’s Golf Day.

This year’s event was very well supported with a number of dignitaries participating such as Judge Steven Majiet, Alvin Botes and Brendan Jacobs who is head of business client coverage for the Free State and Northern Cape, amongst others.

The Vice-Chancellor himself, Prof Andrew Crouch, was also in attendance, enjoying his round at the Kimberley Golf Club’s fairways.

This year the funds raised will go towards a special project called the “Talent Pipeline Programme”.

In essence, the programme entails identifying top indigent achievers from grades 10, 11 and 12 from especially rural schools and township schools in the Northern Cape and to bring them to the university campus during school holidays where they will receive tuition in life skills, maths and science.
