The ‘Gemmies’ did well at the recent University Sports South Africa Games, scooping a number of medals
SOL PLAATJE University’s men’s hockey team walked away with the top honours of their group in the recently concluded round of University Sports South Africa (USSA) games while the women’s team collected silver for their efforts during the games that took place in Cape Town this past week.
SPU hockey coach Faraad Adams confirmed the results of the “Gemmies” teams.
In the men’s team’s first game SPU Hockey beat the University of Limpopo 3-0. They then went on to pummel University of Namibia 2-0 in the follow-up game.
In the women’s section SPU hockey clobbered the University of Zululand 3-0 and rolled over the Vaal University of Technology 1-0.
The SPU sports units also released results for the other sports codes in which they also competed under the auspices of USSA at the University of Cape Town campus.
In the DanceSport championship which was hosted by the University of the Western Cape the SPU Hip Hop Crew hit gold in the solo section for females. SPU scooped second place in the male section of this category.
SPU got luckier in the Hip Hop Duos category where they captured the gold and the bronze medals. They walked away with the Hip Hop Formation silver and took the top gold prize in the Mango Groove section of the modern dance segment.
