THE SOL Plaatje Local Football Association (LFA) used this past Easter long weekend to successfully wrap up the first half of their league season with time to spare.

The LFA was, like most sports bodies, affected by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic regulations. The regulations either forced them to abandon and or amend their fixtures to keep in line with Government imposed rules. The LFA had stopped all matches abruptly and only resumed full league fixtures as of March 1 this year after the regulations were relaxed.

LFA competitions manager Mzwandile Mgoma confirmed that the league season was completed within a month, which was well ahead of schedule. He said this feat was made possible by the league administrators decision to stage up to four games per day over the usual two day weekend.

“The Easter weekend came in handy with two more days added to the usual weekend sports calendar. We have more than 25 teams competing just in the LFA. We divided those into four clusters. This helped us cram more league matches into fewer days.”

In one of the Easter group matches Kimberley Boys High clobbered Eishman 3-0 while Young Pirates were the beneficiaries of a 2-0 drubbing delivered by Diamond City.

PSG had the best of their encounter with Young Achievers beating them 4-2 while Bush Bucks took advantage of Galeshewe Stars with a 2-1 scoreline.

League newcomers Platfontein Celtics did not do much to improve their lowly log position in the LFA. They lost 3-1 to Kimberley United while their neighbours Luiz De Santos had the better of LMK Milano managing to beat Milano 4-3 in full time on Friday.

Yet more games were played on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at various venues. Yesterday Mgoma confirmed that the LFA was busy recompiling the log to reflect the latest standings after the four-day long weekend’s results.
