CAPE TOWN South Africa captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and chose to bat against Australia in the third Test on Thursday as Kagiso Rabada was selected, as expected, after overturning a two-match ban.

While Rabada’s successful appeal meant he was retained in the team, South Africa made two other changes following its series-leveling win in the second test in Port Elizabeth.

Batsman Temba Bavuma was recalled after recovering from injury and fast bowler Morne Morkel also returned to the lineup. Theunis de Bruyn and Lungi Ngisi missed out. Bavuma was picked for his first Test this year.

Australia kept the same team that played the first two tests of the series.

Australia won the series opener convincingly in Durban and South Africa replied with victory in Port Elizabeth, setting up a crucial match at Newlands in the often contentious series.
