This past weekend saw the Northern Cape’s four sub-districts conclude their mixed-pairs bowls competition finals.

Spokeperson Jacques Swanepoel said the winners and teams from the four sub-districts namely Intervaal (Vryburg, Warrenton, Jan Kempdorp, Hartswater, Schweizer-Reneke, Bloemhof), Kimberley, Conroy (De Aar, Prieska Marydale) and Kalahari (Upington, Delportshoop, Lime Acres) will now face off on February 29 to compete for the Northern Cape title here in Kimberley.

The overall champion will then go on to represent the Province at the 2020 Bowls South Africa mixed-pairs championships. 

From the Intervaal district final which was held in Vryburg, the overall winners were Coenie Laubscher and Manda Schoon from the Schweizer-Reneke Club, who beat the Home team of Micheal and Olien Pietersen in the finals.

From the Kimberley sub-district the defending Northern Cape mixed pairs champions Annelie Mathewson and Charles Peter Mathewson (Sol Plaatje West End Club) beat René van Niekerk and David Paulse in the finals.

These teams will now face winners of Kalahari sub-district and Conroy sub-district along with 10 other teams from the four sub-districts in the top 16.
