“We would like to thank (the) host club president Balan Moodaley and his staff for a wonderful weekend.”

This past weekend the Sol Plaatje West End Club bowling team pair of Charles-Peter Mathewson and his mother Annelie Mathewson beat David Paulse and René van Niekerk 21-19 for the title of Northern Cape Bowls Mixed Pairs Champions.

This was the third consecutive year that the Mathewson team have won the title. In all, 16 of the best teams from the four sub-districts competed for the title of Northern Cape Bowls Mixed Pairs Champion.

This competition is considered one of the premium events on the bowls calendar. The winner of this event will compete later on this season against winners from 19 other districts to be crowned Bowls South Africa Mixed Pairs champions.

The Mathewson pair also won the national title in 2018. This means that they will be in with a good shot of also bringing home the national title this time around.

West End club representative Jacques Swanepoel said: “We would like to thank (the) host club president Balan Moodaley and his staff for a wonderful weekend. Remember to keep an eye open for a local event happening at clubs in your area and why not come and watch a bit of bowls at our next big event on the 6th of May when 16 of best men’s and ladies fours will compete for the District Championship title.”
