On Tuesday morning Hungry Lions operations manager Portia Mavuso said they were awaiting word from the appointed match referee to pronounce on the suitability of the pitch to host a match.

HUNGRY Lions and Pretoria Callies will spend a few more anxious hours waiting for Wednesday to honour their GladAfrica Championship match which was postponed on Tuesday because of a waterlogged Windhoek Draught Park pitch where they were scheduled to play.

On Tuesday morning Hungry Lions operations manager Portia Mavuso said they were awaiting word from the appointed match referee to pronounce on the suitability of the pitch to host a full blown match.

The early morning pitch inspection had revealed that the pitch was soggy in places which would make it less than ideal to play on. It had rained incessantly in the Kimberley area for over three days which had resulted in the soggy pitch.

Late on Tuesday afternoon the inspection team, which included the referee, the match commissioner and club representatives pronounced the pitch unplayable. The match was consequently postponed to Wednesday, April 13).

Mavuso said all interested parties will be notified overnight about the match start time. This was because they still had to liaise with the National First Division administrators about the matter.
