Rehanna Moshoeshoe Cup defending champions Young Pirates took a first-time visit to Florianville where they emerged successful beating Colville Legends 3-1 in this annual social responsibility tournament on Sunday.
Pirates have been in the final of this tournament twice already; the last occasion was last year when they beat Saints.
The half-time score was 1-0 in favour of Pirates. Mtawali Koopman of the visiting Pirates team said afterwards the match was really a much deserved practice session for them. “We do not fear any team in this competition and we want to go all the way to the final,” he said.
The first goal of the game came in the 15th minute when Mtawali scored the opener.
Legends, on the other hand, fumbled many of their goal chances upfront and failed to find the spot. In the second half Colville came up with better ideas and this paid off when Morris Seekoei scored in the 57th minute to level matters.
The Greenpoint Lovebirds put another past Colville in the 67th minute when Boere Lephoi found the net. In the 80th minute Mtawali came back for his brace and put the score at 3-1 in favour of Pirates.
In the other game at the same venue last year, Rehanna Cup finalists, the Glamour Boys, also known as Saints FC booked themselves a place in the quarter-finals of the competition when they took the soft points against Rhodesian Sweepers.
The visitors had, on that occasion, arrived with only three players in tow.
