Safa in the Frances Baard region has accepted the rescheduled dates suggested by its provincial body for the ongoing Nedbank Cup Inter-Regional Elimination rounds to afford competing teams ample time to prepare.
Safa Frances Baard secretary Ponatshego Mondela said the region had last weekend completed its round of elimination games for the competition.
“We have completed our Nedbank Cup (district) schedule and have forwarded our winner to the provincial secretary for inclusion in the next phase which is the inter-regional eliminations rounds.”
Phokwane Stars last Sunday emerged as the winner of the district elimination rounds after slashing Sol Plaatje area team Dalton Brothers 4-2 in the final at the Galeshewe Stadium.
At the provincial level, the ABC Motsepe League, Upington’s Hungry Lions on Sunday seized the winner’s rostrum by beating Northern Cape Professionals 4-2 on penalties to emerge the Nedbank Cup winner at the provincial level.
This week, Provincial Secretary Willem Coetzee issued a revised set of Nedbank Cup competition fixtures which were largely designed to accommodate regions outside of the Frances Baard District.
The new date for the Nedbank Cup fixtures is the weekend of October 26-27.
Once district champions from the outstanding areas have been confirmed they will move on to the provincial versus regional cup winners final which will be held on November 2. The venue for both dates will be confirmed at a later date.
The overall provincial winner will go on to represent the Province in the last 32 of the Nedbank Cup competition. That draw is likely to be conducted around January-February next year with a likely national final in March.
