Kuruman’s Kgwanyape take Inter-LFA tourney title

The Kuruman based Kgwanyape football team walked away with the R16 000 prize money for winning the Kumba Iron Ore Mine sponsored edition of the Tsalfa-Kolomela Masters football tournament which took place over two days in Postmasburg recently.

The inter-LFA tournament, which also featured two clubs from Kimberley, Aztec and Crusaders, featured 12 teams competing for total prize money of R50 000.

In the final Kgwanyape beat neighbours Finsch 5-4 on penalties after the two teams had deadlocked at 2-2 at the end of full time.

Kgwanyape had made their way through the semi-finals by seeing off Griekwastad 6-3, while in the other semi-final Finsch got the better of Kimberley’s Aztec with a 4-2 win.

Aztec can hold their heads high as the Kimberley team had not fared badly in the tournament’s preliminary stage, managing to upset Postmasburg by 5-4 on penalties after they had deadlocked at a goal each in regular time.

Kgwanyape also walked away with the tournament trophy as well as gold medals for the team.

Finch, for their efforts pocketed the R11 000 prize on offer as silver medalists, while Aztec received R8 000 as bronze medalists.

All quarter-final losers received R2 500 in compensation.
