Rain played a big factor in the games being played in Kimberley.

Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews won the toss and elected to bat in the first Test against the West Indies at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.

THE SECOND day of the Group C, Pool D Senior Provincial Men’s Cricket tournament taking place in Kimberley saw the match between Northern Cape Cricket and Western Province at the Kimberley Oval being postponed for the day on Wednesday after the heavy rains that fell in the city on Tuesday night.

However, the match at the Country Club B field was able to get under way, though it started late – just after 3pm with eta Northerns still at the crease.

The Northerns team declared their first innings closed on 274/7, with G Koopman scoring 82, D Rosier 68, J Pillay and K Simmons both scored 28, while the pick of the SA Under-19 bowlers were N Steyn 3/45, M Copeland 3/57 and A Simelane 1/34.

In their second innings, SA Under-19 ended the day on 35/3, with D Smith 17* and D Brevis 6*, with E Jones 2/7 and G Koopman 1/10 the best of the eta Notherns bowlers.

Weather permitting on Thursday both matches will be concluded.
