The Sol Plaatje Local Football Association (LFA) is disputing the legitimacy of the Interim provincial committee structure of the Northern Cape Masters and Legends Football Association (NCML FL) which announced its presence via social media this week.
The interim masters and legends structure spokesman Lebo Marekoa on August 8 released a press statement in which he announced the founding of the interim executive committee of the organ.
According to the group’s press statement, the masters and legends interim provincial committee (IPC) “cordially invites all former professional football players and administrators to contact us”.
The statements continued to state: “The IPC is commissioned by its current constituency to pave a path leading to its first provincial elective congress to convene soon. All former professional football players and administrators within the following sub-regions are requested to honour this invitation.”
The Sol Plaatje LFA through its chairperson Seabata Makhele approached the DFA sports desk to verify the validity and or authenticity of the claims by the group.
Newly-elected Safa Northern Cape deputy chairperson Doc Mathe said they were aware of the new group and that they welcomed its founding. Mathe said the masters and legends group had approached Safa with a plea to join the football controlling body. He said the group had among its members former Premier Soccer League players whom he named.
“Some of their members have travelled extensively here and abroad and have valuable experiences to contribute towards the development of football in general. As matters stand there is a national masters and legends association to which they will affiliate as soon as they have set up their local, district and provincial structures.
“We stand ready to assist with registration as soon as they have concluded the formalities of their formation.”
