Nthabiseng Majiya (18) of Richmond Ladies United FC will on Thursday fly into her home province, the Northern Cape, amid much fanfare at the Kimberley airport as she returns from Morocco with the national women’s squad as champions of women’s continental football.

Majiya staked her claim to fame and more than justified her selection to South Africa’s women’s national team when she scored the only goal in the first round eliminator against Botswana ladies in Morocco.

Banyana Banyana clinched the coveted continental title for women’s football under the auspices of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The national squad eliminated hosts Morocco 2-1 in the final. SA’s Hilda Magaia provided both goals in the 63rd and 71st minute of play.

The team had also notched up a historical win over continental rivals Nigeria netting 2-1 against the Super Falcons in their very first match at the tournament.

On Tuesday Majiya’s sports handler, local talent scout Brenda Mafunisa said her charge will likely land in Kimberley on Thursday just after lunch.

A reception of dignitaries and football’s who’s who are likely to welcome Majiya at the airport enroute to her home team in Richmond about 350km south of Kimberley.
