THE RICHMOND United Ladies FC Under-20 team, at the weekend, won the right to represent the Northern Cape province at the annual Engen Knockout Challenge which will likely be hosted in Gauteng in the first week of October.

An excited Richmond United coach Edward Lisene shared the news saying: “You’d like to know that we won an entry to the Engeng competition.”

This is the first time that the Richmond junior team won an entry to the national knockout competition after they took part in a four-team regional tournament qualifier at the weekend in Upington in the ZF Mgcawu district.

The Richmond Ladies junior side thrashed the ZF Mgcawu representative team Magic Angels 3-1 in the opening match. They then went on to beat the John Taolo Getsewe team Tlhaping Flowers 1-0 in the final.

Lisene confirmed that teenage, midfield sensation Nthabiseng Majiya was in part of the squad that enjoyed a run in the pre-qualifiers. She will most definitely be in the squad leaving for the national championships in October, he said.

Majiya earlier this year enjoyed a prolonged stay in the national women’s team camp, Banyana Banyana, before as the squad prepared to go to Morocco where they ultimately won the continental women’s championship.

The Engen sponsored development tournament has been in action for 20 years assisting both boys and girls in teams to reach their best potential as footballers.

The national tournament organising team will shortly announce the venue for the national play-offs.
