AFTER the second day of the Group C, Pool D Senior Provincial Men’s Cricket tournament between Northern Cape Cricket and Western Province at the Kimberley Oval was postponed one day two on Wednesday after the heavy rains that fell in the city on Tuesday night, day three had even worse news.

In the end, the match at the Kimberley Oval was called off on day three on Thursday due to a waterlogged outfield.

However, the game at the Country Club B field between eta Northerns and the SA Under-19 team was completed with Northerns winning handsomely by an innings and 82 runs.

Northerns managed to bowl the SA Under-19 side out in their second innings for 151 after their first innings of 41. For the Under-19’s the top batsmen in their second knock were D Brevis 33, N Steyn 34 and J Stephenson 24 not out .

The pick of the Northerns bowlers were K Simmonds with his 4/51, E Jones 2/11 and L Nkese 2/12

In the first innings after skittling the SA Under-19s for their meagre 41, Northerns posted 274/7 declared which gave them enough of a cushion to seal an emphatic win.
