Pescodia Porto FC have clawed their way back to the summit of the fourth tier SAB league in the Frances Baard district with only three matches remaining before the conference season closes.

The league will close a week earlier this time around as all remaining clubs will play 28 games instead of the usual 30. This is because Hartswater’s perpetual bottom log dweller team Bonita Sundowns FC have been expelled from the 16 member league for failing to honour three association matches.

Sundowns’ expulsion from the league was confirmed by Safa Frances Baard secretary Ponatshego Mondela on Monday.

Porto’s rise back to the top of the conference was regained on the back of consecutive wins over Winsorton Young Stars and Chicken Inn FC over a fortnight. Porto first beat Young Stars 10-1 and followed up with a convincing 3-1 won over Chicken Inn of Barkly West.

Porto had started their first year in the SAB conference with an extended stay at the top of the log that stretched for almost four months. They temporarily lost their hold on the summit as a result of a number of drawn games and one loss and a then another key draw against Ipopeng’s Real Madrid FC.

Real Madrid have proven to be a handful for this ambitious team in this season.

Porto have been rewarded with 58 points after completing 26 games which include 17 wins, seven draws and two losses for a total 76 goals scored. Real Madrid, who temporarily held the log lead in Porto’s absence, are a close second with 57 points which they derived from 25 matches with 18 wins, three draws, four losses and a 65 goal credit.

Chicken Inn are now ranked right at the bottom after the expulsion of Sundowns. Chicken Inn have a mere 16 points. Just above them are Hartswater neighbours, The Students, who have amassed 18 points after 25 games.

Pes Porto will officially next meet Phokwane Stars on May 13 and follow up with a game against Macarena FC on May 20 before closing off with a fixture on May 26 against Juventus.
