The shock 0-0 result in the weekend derby between Kakamas Juventus and Kakamas Sundowns has upset permutations for the likely coastal league champions of the ABC Motsepe League conference.

The less fancied Juventus had gone into the last of two fixtures against Sundowns firmly perched at the top of the coastal log with 24 points from 12 matches. Sundowns was at the disadvantage of sitting at position three after 12 matches for their 22 points.

The weekend result is an upset for the upward movement of Juventus who had been sitting at the top slot for an unprecedented four-week period this season since taking to the third tier Safa league in more than a decade.

Sundowns is the more illustrious of the two Kakamas sides in the town. National team player Rivaldo Coetzee calls this Sundowns team his home.

This result leaves the coastal league still open and up for the taking by the upstart Olympics FC who hail from Okiep near Springbok.

Olympics leapfrogged over both Kakamas teams to take the top spot with a convincing 3-1 trouncing of Upington side Mainstay United at the weekend.

One of two Upington sides with bite Tornado FC lost its duel with Hungry Lions 1-0 at the Upington showgrounds at the weekend. The other team, Morester Jeug which bristles with youthful talent went down 2-0 to Rasta Fa Eagles of Tsantsabane near Postmasburg.

In the inland league of the same conference De Aar based Rovers United is unmoved at the top spot after a 1-all drawn meeting in De Aar at the weekend against Kimberley’s best resourced outfit NC Liverpool.

Liverpool, who travel in their own team bus to match venues, is a close second behind the two leading teams – Rovers and Ikhutseng Young Stars. The two are tied on 24 points with 11 matches played and seven wins apiece.

In the same conference the league have announced the expulsion of Greenpoint Young Pirates. However, no reasons for this decision have been furnished. Pirates are, it has to be said, serial offenders at not honouring fixtures.

Their match points have been expunged and deducted from all other played fixtures.
