The Northern Cape Cricket team proved to be ‘pretty poor’ hosts when their CSA Provincial Three-Day Cup competition kicked off yesterday after they won the toss and sent visitors Border in to bat on a warm morning at the Diamond Oval.

At stumps late yesterday afternoon NCC had put themselves in a very strong position and were sitting on 147/1 after dismissing Border for just 145 runs in 53.5 overs.

Starts

Only Clayton Bosch (30), Joshua Dodd 26 and Jerome Bossr (24) managed to get starts for Border with the rest of the batsmen just contributing bits and pieces.

Patrick Kruger’s 3/29 ripped the heart out of the visitors’ batting line-up while Desmond de Koker 2/40, Beyers Swanepoel 2/23 and Kagisho Mohale 2/40 also did some damage.

Unfortunately for the hosts, their reply got off to a less than ideal start when Grant Mokoena had to retire hurt having scored a single run. Keegan Pietersen contributed 25, but a watchful Ernest Kemm 38 (125 balls, 4x4s) and a free-scoring Obus Pienaar 72 (96 balls, 10x4s) were still at the crease.

The match continues today and will be followed by the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge clash on Sunday.
