PARTICIPATING for the first time in the SAPS National Rugby Championships, the Northern Cape women’s team blew away their opposition.
On the second day of the tournament, the provincial women’s team, annihilated their Gauteng opponents 34-0.
The local team scored six tries but only managed to convert two. They went into the halftime break with a comfortable 19-0 lead.
The Northern Cape women played an exciting, running brand of rugby, taking their chances, finding the gaps and making good use of their ball possession.
The women from Gauteng did not totally embarrass themselves and come close to the try line on a number of occasions. The basics, however, such as holding onto the ball which resulted in numerous knock-ons, let them down.
