Northern Cape cricket announces squad for 2020/21 season

We have good experienced players, some youngsters and most of these players have over time played either SA Under-19, SA Emerging and SA Invitational teams.

NORTHERN Cape Cricket (NCC) on Tuesday announced their squad for the new season, saying they were privileged to sign the bulk of the players from the past season who performed so well for them. These players formed the backbone of the team who shared the One-Day Cup with Central Franchise counterparts, Free State; NCC also ended third on the log in the Three-Day competition.

The squad includes Aubrey Swanepoel who has played 118 First-Class games with a highest score of 168 not out against Free State. Swanepoel also has 107 List A games to his name. Another player who stood out last season was Beyers Swanepoel with his highest score of 188 not out against KZN Coastal in addition to 34 First-Class wickets. Together with Garnett Tarr and Jacques Snyman he played for the SA Invitational team against England.

A new signing for the team is Gerrit Cloete who played for the NCC Rural Provincial Team where he excelled. The union expressed their excitement about signing of Gerrit who in Kathu and will be playing cricket full-time.

The other new signing is Andrew Rasemene who is a fast bowler from Limpopo. The coaches are very keen to see him play cricket at this level because of his express pace. His figures in an innings is 4/44 with a match return of 6/69 against the Central Gauteng Strikers.

NCC also took the opportunity to wish Snyman well, who has signed for the VKB Knights. The union also thanked Avumile Mnci for his contributions for the past two seasons.

Deon Carolus, assistant coach of NCC, spoke about his hopes for the upcoming season.

“I am very excited about the squad that has been assembled for the new season. We have good experienced players, some youngsters and most of these players have over time played either SA Under-19, SA Emerging and SA Invitational teams. 

“Our bowling attack has a nice balance of pace bowlers, right and left arm, and spin bowlers,” he added.

Northern Cape squad for 2020/21 season: 

Aubrey Swanepoel, Beyers Swanepoel, Kagisho Mohale, Ernest Kemm, Blake Schraader, Desmond de Koker, Garnett Tarr, Gerrit Cloete, Mqaleni Nangamso, Andrew Rasemene and Clyde Fortuin.
