Rovers are relative newcomers to the league having gained promotion last season
United Rovers, who have a stranglehold on the inland stream of the dual-stream ABC Motsepe conference with 19 points, are likely to improve their position when they clash with Olifantshoek Young Stars at the latter’s homeground tomorrow afternoon.
Rovers have scored twice the amount of goals than Young Stars who are their nearest league rivals who have scored 13 goals in eight matches. Rovers have scored 24 times, also in eight games. The two meet at Olifantshoek’s Ditloung Stadium with the game kicking off at 4pm.
Rovers are relative newcomers to the league having gained promotion last season. They also have a proven track record of being the more ambitious club as they have twice qualified to take part in the lucrative Nedbank Cup competition in successive seasons.
On the other hand Stars are old hands in the ABC Motsepe League having been around for more than more than five seasons. Oddly enough Stars have yet to make an appearance in the Nedbank Cup or a similarly significant competition.
Meanwhile, Kuruman Kicks, who had pummelled the likes of Kimberley’s Colville United and William Pescod at will at their homeground in Batlharos in previous seasons, seems to have lost steam as the league swings into the last leg of the current season. Kicks have a measly four points from seven games with a solitary win, a draw and five defeats.
Elsewhere, in the coastal stream perennial also-rans Kakamas Sundowns that produced Bafana Bafana central defender Rivaldo Coetzee, surprisingly lead the coastal pack with 17 points after eight games.
Morester Jeug, who have contested some crucial games in the Nedbank Cup, are languishing at the bottom of that conference with a mere five points from eight games, testimony to the avalanche of goals totalling 36 scored against them, compared to the paltry 16 goals in their account.
Newcomers to the coastal stream Upington’s Tornado United sit a tad above Morester with a superior goal difference count of -7 compared to Morester’s -20.
