Northern Cape Cricket’s star all-rounder Jacques Snyman said he was extremely surprised at being called up to play for the Jozi Stars in the Mzansi Super League series, due to an injury to Gerald Coetzee.

Snyman has been having a great season for NCC both with bat and ball and this call-up should actually not have been such a surprise.

Speaking to the DFA yesterday Snyman said that this was a dream come true. “I am really excited to be joining the Jozi Stars franchise as it has always been a dream of mine and I am looking forward to my time with them I’ll be able to learn more and grow even more into my game,” he said.

Snyman was born in Pretoria in 1994 and was included in the Northern Cape squad for the 2016 Africa T20 Cup. He made his Twenty20 debut for NCC against South Western Districts in September of the same year and then made his first-class debut for the Province in December in the 2016/17 Sunfoil Three-Day Cup.

The young all-rounder kept telling the DFA how stunned he was when he received the call on the eve of his fixture against Border on Wednesday. “I was stunned and it was somewhat difficult to describe the feeling when I received the news. “It did take some time to sink in, but I am really overwhelmed for the opportunity offered and it is definitely a dream come true,” he added.

Snyman said that the quality of his game did not come about by accident however. “A massive tribute must go to Northern Cape Cricket and their coaches for all their backing and support, as well as a big thank you to our head coach JP Triegaardt who has really helped me grow in my game this season. I really feel that I am a better cricketer than been before.

“And finally,” he added, “a big thanks to all my family, loved-ones and friends for their never-ending support.”

The Jozi Stars take on the Paarl Rocks in Paarl this evening.
