The Northern Cape Cricket team was in a pretty strong position at stumps yesterday in their CSA Provincial Three-Day Cup match against North West in Potchefstroom. The visitors head into the second day today 46 runs ahead with eight first-innings wickets remaining.
North West batted first and at the lunch break were in deep trouble on 79/5. Only Kagiso Rapulana who was on 51 at the time on his way to a well-played 60 put up any resistance. Eventually, the hosts were dismissed for 119 in 42.3 overs shortly after lunch. Besides Rapulana only two North West batsmen got into double-figures.
Northern Cape started their innings at a brisk pace losing Grant Mokoena for 28 and got to tea on 70/1.
At stumps NCC were on 165/2 with Ernest Kemm (39) and Obus Pienaar (29) the not-out batsmen. Jacques Snyman had bludgeoned his way to a quickfire 57 (55 balls, 8x4s, 1×6) to give the visitors a good start to the match.
