Bloemanda team, NC Liverpool, swept the boards with Warrenton’s Magareng All Stars in soaring temperatures hovering around 38 degrees Celcius, at the AR Abass Stadium in Square Hill Park, during a regular ABC Motsepe League match on Saturday afternoon.

The full-time score ended 3-1 in favour of Liverpool. At half-time, Liverpool had the lead which already stood at 2-1. The victorious coach NC Liverpool’s Pepsi Phepheng said afterwards he was happy with the game as they had gone out to collect the maximum points of the match, anyway. Phepheng used the chance to also suss out some of the club’s new signings and to rest some of his trusted hands.

Stars’ coach Thomas Tshabalala said he was under the impression that they would have an easy game seeing that they had scored first. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out that way as Liverpool had plans of their own, he said.

The first goal in the match came in the opening five minutes from a freekick taken by Bandile Ntshangisa of Magareng All Stars to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. After that Liverpool kept up the pressure on their opponents as they grafted for their own equalising goal.

They got there in the 34th minute, also from a free kick when Vuyisile Ndedlana scored for his side. Elton Khala then made the score 2-1 for Liverpool in the 37th minute.

In the second half, the match gave up plenty of chances for both sides as they went on the hunt for goals. In the 72nd minute, Liverpool’s veteran player Joseph Riet, who was on song, made it 3-1 for his side.
