NC karateka can earn a spot at SA nationals

Young karateka in the Northern Cape stand to earn their provincial colours at the weekend with three of the best getting a shot to be selected for the Karate SA nationals when Northern Cape Karate (NCK) hosts its provincial trials at Eureka Primary School on Saturday.

NCK president, Gilbert Isaka, said the trials at the school in Klisser Road in Hadison Park will start at 9am sharp under the supervision of karate technical organiser Peter Stegmann.

Isaka told the DFA that at the trials the top three young karateka will be offered an opportunity to compete at the Karate SA nationals which will be held in Cape Town and in Durban later this year. These athletes will make up the provincial team and subsequently earn their provincial colours.

Isaka explained that NCK, as the authorised Sascoc, Olympics and IOC representative karate organisation in the Province, stages three such trials for its members in a year. During the trials, all the Province’s five districts will take part.

According to him three athletes selected this weekend will also compete at the upcoming national trials to earn their own rankings and be up for selection for the Zone 6 World Karate Federation Youth championship League as well as the Union of African Karate Federation Championship which will be held later in the year.
