Kimberley is currently hosting the Under-16 Grant Khomo rugby week that is being held at the Windhoek Draught Park. This comes after SA Rugby confirmed that four national Youth Week tournaments will be played in three stadiums during the mid-school holidays, from June 26 to July 9.

The New Week programme will kick off with the Under-16 and Under-18 Girls’ Week in Welkom, from Sunday June 26 to Friday, July 1, and Grant Khomo Under-16 Week will be played at the same time in Kimberley.

That will be followed by Under-18 Craven Week, when the prestigious school boys rugby tournament returns to Cape Town where it will be hosted at Rondebosch Boys High School from Sunday, July 3 to Saturday, July 9.

SA Rugby CEO Jurie Roux welcomed the return of Youth Weeks, which is regarded as an important part of the development of South African rugby.

“We are pleased to announce the return of the four-week SA Rugby Youth Weeks after the disruption of the past two seasons and the uncertainty over the COVID-19 epidemic,” said Roux.

“Due to the current financial crisis and its national importance and strategies, SA Rugby is able to bring four weeks to seven regular youth this year.

The South African Schools Rugby Association (SASRA), in partnership with the relevant school councils in the province, is busy with plans to reunite the other three weeks of Youth. We are very hopeful that next year we will be in a position to organise all the national Youth Weeks again.”

For the sake of health and mental safety, SA Rugby has once again urged all stakeholders to be extra careful when planning or participating in any of the celebrations, competitions or organised church events.
