The national women’s team sponsor Sasol was not involved in the event but that it was a wholly Safa initative
The head coaches and technical support staff of three divisions of the South African women’s football teams will conduct open selection trials in Upington for aspiring young players who wish to be picked for national colours.
Safa provincial secretary Willem Coetzee yesterday revealed that the top three national team coaches and technical managers will spend time at Paballelo stadium in Upington on July 15.
Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis, national women’s Under-20 coach Maud Khumalo and national Under-17 mentor Simphiwe Dludlu will be among the personnel who will put aspiring national team candidates through their paces.
Coetzee extended an invitation to all club managers and individual coaches who have girls aged from 14 to 17 years to call on the coaches during the workshop which will open at 9am and close at 12 noon.
Coetzee said the national coaches will afterwards host a forum for their club counterparts from 1pm to 2pm at the boardroom of the same venue. All club coaches must bring along identification documents for their charges as well as any relevant coaches certificates they may have.
Coetzee pointed out that the national women’s team sponsor Sasol was not involved in the event but that it was a wholly Safa initative, which is sponsored by the national department of Sports and Recreation.
