Boland won the toss and opted to bat first in their CSA Three-Day Provincial Cup fixture against hosts Northern Cape Cricket (NCC) at a scorching Diamond Oval yesterday, probably hoping to take full advantage of conditions and keep the hosts out in the draining heat.
The visitors went on to set a first innings score of 238, which coach Loots Bosman reckoned was well within his batsmen’s reach.
NCC’s medium pace bowler Kagisho Mohale scythed through the Boland batting, returning figures of 5/47. Zac Qwabe (2/57) and Mbulelo Budaza (2/45) made sure the visitors were pegged back.
For the visitors Daniel Sincuba top scored with 44, while Darryl Hendricks (30) and Dayyaan Galiem (26) also chipped in.
In their reply, Northern Cape started their innings slowly and ended the day on 51/2, with the two not-out batsmen, Grant Mokoena (18*) and Zac Qwabe (17*), set to kick on when the match continues this morning.
