Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has expressed optimism about the arrival of new manager Ruben Amorim, who joined the club on Monday.

The Brazilian international believes that the players are eager to learn from Amorim, whose successful tenure at Sporting Lisbon has heightened expectations at Old Trafford.

Amorim, 39, is expected to face a daunting task in reviving the fortunes of a struggling United side. His appointment comes on the heels of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s brief reign as interim manager, which concluded with a solid 3-0 victory against Leicester City. This win marked the third triumph for United in four matches following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, indicating a possible turning point for the beleaguered club.

Casemiro praised the credentials of the Portuguese coach after the win over Leicester, highlighting his loyalty and effectiveness at Sporting Lisbon.

“He is very true, very loyal,” Casemiro remarked, acknowledging Amorim’s impressive record.

“We cannot ignore how he has changed Sporting. They won many titles, changed the club with trophies. He has already proved that he is a coach that has won a lot.”

The midfielder conveyed hopes of establishing a strong learning environment that would propel United back to the top of the Premier League table.

As Amorim awaits the approval of his work permit before he can lead training sessions, he is permitted to hold meetings at Carrington with staff, including Van Nistelrooy, who has expressed a desire to remain involved in the club’s future. With his first official match set for November 24 against Ipswich, time is of the essence for Amorim to implement his innovative 3-4-3 formation.

Casemiro has shown signs of resurgence this season, overcoming a shaky start that included a particularly challenging match against Liverpool.

“Well, everyone can see, can’t they? I only had the Liverpool game, right? The whole team was not good in that game, or this season,” he reflected.

Despite previous struggles, he emphasised his commitment to improvement, stating, “I want to continue growing, I want to continue helping my teammates and the coach.”

The former Real Madrid star’s continual growth will be vital as Manchester United look to restore their competitive edge.

Amorim’s departure from Sporting was celebrated in style, with a thrilling 4-2 comeback victory against Braga on Sunday. As he embarks on his new chapter with United, Joao Pereira has been appointed as the new head coach at Sporting Lisbon, stepping up from his role as reserve-team boss.
