THIS coming weekend is a massive rugby weekend for South Africa. Not only are the Springboks facing the formidable Pumas in front of an intimidating crowd in Argentina, but here at home, the Fidelity ADT Lions will host the Hollywoodbets Sharks XV in the highly anticipated 2024 Carling Currie Cup Premier Division Final at Emirates Airline Park in Johannesburg. The final kicks off at 4pm.
Both teams earned their places in the decider after dramatic semi-final encounters last weekend.
The Lions, playing at home, came from behind to secure a remarkable 43-34 victory over defending champions, the Toyota Cheetahs, in Johannesburg. The win marked the Lions’ first final appearance in five years, having last reached this landmark in 2019.
Meanwhile, in Pretoria, the Sharks XV earned their spot in the final despite drawing 40-40 with the Vodacom Bulls. The Sharks progressed thanks to scoring more tries in the match (six tries to four), advancing after a fiercely contested battle that stretched into extra time.

Road to the Final
Both teams in this year’s final have shown tremendous character and grit in reaching this stage of the competition. The Lions will be hoping to capitalise on their home-ground advantage, while the Sharks will look to build on their never-say-die attitude displayed in Pretoria.
The 2024 Carling Currie Cup Premier Division Final will be broadcast live on SuperSport, and no doubt, judging from the quality of the competition thus far, the stage is set for an epic Currie Cup Final on Saturday.
