After Leonay Kock’s outstanding showing in Namibia, she received the exciting news that she has been called up for the Under-15 National Camp, taking place at the SAFA Fun Valley in Johannesburg from November 7-10.
One of Kimberley’s brightest young soccer talents, 14-year-old Leonay Kock, recently made waves at the COSAFA School Championships in Walvis Bay, Namibia.
Representing the Northern Cape, Leonay scored an impressive 11 goals during the tournament, five of those in the match against Angola, securing a coveted Player of the Tournament award. Her stellar performances and achievements were celebrated by her community upon her return home.
But Leonay’s journey is far from over. After her outstanding showing in Namibia, she received the exciting news that she has been called up for the Under-15 National Camp, taking place at the SAFA Fun Valley in Johannesburg from November 7-10.
This camp will provide Leonay an opportunity to be assessed for the prestigious High Performance Intake in 2025, where only 15 girls from around the country will be selected to pursue their soccer dreams at an elite level.
This week, Leonay received a hamper in a special handover at her home to help support her at the national camp. The Northern Cape Sports Authority, in partnership with SAFA Northern Cape, provided her with a set of essentials, including Nike soccer boots, a pair of flip-flops, toiletries, a sports bra, and a backpack.
These items are more than just equipment; they’re a show of support from her province as she represents Kimberley and the Northern Cape on a national platform.
Speaking to the DFA, Leonay shared her excitement about attending the national camp saying, “If I keep doing my best and stay focused, I see a bright future ahead for me.”
For Leonay, this camp could be a stepping stone toward her dream of playing soccer at the highest level, and her goal is to make a lasting impression, determined to give it her all to stand out.
