The club is back with a vengeance, returning with a road race that caters for almost all ages and distances – the ‘Great Kolomela Road Race’.
Kolomela Athletics Club in Postmasburg is back on the road again after a short break imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic on the club’s activities.
This time around the club is back with a vengeance, returning with a road race that caters for almost all ages and distances. This week the club announced the arrival on the athletics scene of the ‘Great Kolomela Road Race’.
Club chairperson Bonolo Maruping confirmed that the team last had a competitive race in 2019 just before the Covid-19 pandemic struck. The following year the race was not honoured owing to the strict lockdown regulations set down for all of South Africa by the Government.
Maruping said that the team was lucky this time around to get the buy-in of mining corporation Kolomela Mine who chipped in with a sizable investment which allowed the club to offer significant prize incentives to its top finishers in the 10km, 21km, and 42km races.
This week the group bragged on its social media page which is handled by seasoned amateur road runner and Northern Cape Government senior manager Lebo Moremedi who posted: “All roads are leading to Postmasburg. Kolomela Mine is the organiser and Tsantsabane Municipality is the host.”
Moremedi’s post continued: “This is one among the few local races that is remunerating athletes hard work beyond expectation.
“Northern Cape athletes, this are your prices, let the medals remain or stay home. National and International athletes, come and get a run for the money.”
The race is scheduled to take place on October 22 at the Postmasburg city centre.
