KIMBERLEY’S own Charné Maddocks is weaving her magic again. The former Northern Cape High School learner has been selected to be part of the SA Women’s Hockey Squad.

Following the completion of the South African Hockey Inter-Provincial Tournament, SA Hockey announced a 34-player squad for the SA Women’s Hockey Squad on Thursday. The selection of the squad is the first step in the new phase of building the national team.

And it’s a squad with a good pedigree. Paris Olympians Aphiwe Dimba, Antonet Louw, Edith Molikoe, Hannah Pearce, Kayla de Waal, Kayla Swarts, Kristen Paton, Ntsopa Mokoena, Ongi Mali, Thati Zulu, Paris-Gail Isaacs, Quanita Bobbs, Stephanie Botha, and Quanita Bobbs have all been retained, providing valuable experience.

Meanwhile, several other familiar faces have also been called up to the squad, including Tegan Fourie, Jean Leigh du Toit, Hanrie Louw, and Marlise van Tonder, all eager to further their international careers.

Additionally, Charné and Lerato Mahole who represented South Africa at the Tokyo Olympics have earned recalls, adding their valuable experience to the mix.

And besides all the experience, there are also a number of players who are aiming for their first Test cap, including Ane Janse van Vuuren, Tamlyn Kock, Izaiah April, and Maikemisetso Marokoane.

Meanwhile, Grace Cochrane, Marguerite van Wyk, and Daniella de Oliveira aspire to achieve the distinction of being dual-format internationals, having already represented the nation in another discipline.
