THE DIAMOND City put on a show for Kimberley Real Madrid at the weekend as the Northern Cape champions of the ABC Motsepe League left for Potchefstroom to vie for the national title and possible elevation to Safa’s National First Division (NFD).

Real Madrid are among nine provincial champions of the ABC Motsepe league who descended upon Olen Park at the University of North West’s Potchefstroom campus on Monday morning to kick off the week-long contest for the national championship and promotion to the NFD.

At the weekend, local luxury brand auto retailer Vaal Motors presented the Northern Cape champions with a set of wheels which will get them to their destination in style and comfort. The retailer presented the team with a 16-seater midi-bus from their range of top brand vehicles.

Juandré Jacobs, Vaal Motors sales manager said about their relationship with Real Madrid: “They qualified to play in a major football tournament where they stand a chance to go to division one. We merely assisted this community with regards to their needs and saved them funds.

“We know transport is a big thing for us in the (Northern Cape) province. We’re also involved with high school and primary school teams on other days. We are quite involved with the communities around us.”

Real Madrid will kick off their campaign in group A in the North West town on Tuesday afternoon against Limpopo champions Magesi FC at 3.30pm. To be absolutely safe in this group Real Madrid must win this first of two round robin appointments.

After playing their first match the team will rest and re-energise on Wednesday. On Thursday Madrid will honour their second group match against Eastern Cape champions Spear of The Nation at 9am.

On Friday the tournament will match the group winners against the group runners-up. The first semi-final draw will follow on Saturday.

The tournament comes to a close on Sunday. The national play-off matches will be broadcast live on SuperSport.
