After a hard-fought season on soccer fields all over the City of Kimberley, two formidable teams have emerged victorious in the fiercely contested Sol Plaatje Masters Football League, ending top of their section of the two-stream League.

Aztec Masters FC clinched the top spot in Stream A, while Juventus FC dominated Stream B. Now, the stage is set for two epic clashes starting this Sunday at 3pm at the De Beers Stadium in Kenilworth Road.

This will be followed by another game, with venue and time still to be announced, and ultimately these games will determine the 2023 Masters League champions.

So, soccer enthusiasts, mark your calendars and make your way to the De Beers Stadium on Sunday to cheer on your favourite team and witness history in the making. Here Danie van der Lith looks at Juventus Masters Football Club, one of the finalists.

EMBODYING a rich legacy of sportsmanship and camaraderie, the Juventus Masters Football Club in Kimberley stands as a beacon of inspiration within the local sports scene. Founded by retired soccer players, this unique club is a testament to unwavering passion and community involvement in the world of football.

This extraordinary club is the brainchild of former soccer players who have hung up their professional boots but remain deeply committed to the beautiful game. Hailing from various local soccer clubs, these players may have aged, but their love for soccer is as strong as ever. And if you’re wondering, their vision is to nurture and discover new talent, thereby sustaining and promoting the sport they hold dear.

Managed by players over the age of 35, Juventus Masters has not only carved out a niche for themselves but has also registered their own league that serves as a platform for like-minded teams to test their skills against each other, fostering a friendly yet competitive spirit.

Over the past nine years, Juventus has grown from strength to strength. They have not just participated in these leagues; they’ve dominated them. The team’s trophy cabinet boasts an impressive collection of titles, including being crowned champions of the Masters Football League in 2007, and after a stutter in 2008, they hit a purple patch and raked in six consecutive titles between 2009 to 2014.

Their journey, however, hasn’t been without challenges. In 2015, they ended as runners-up, a result that broke their winning streak, but proved that they’re always ready to put up a good fight to the bitter end.

In addition to their league triumphs, Juventus also made their mark in other tournaments. The Rehana Moshoeshoe Tournament saw them as champions in 2011 and runners-up in 2013, demonstrating their consistent competitiveness. The Easter Tournament has also been a stage for their talent, with victories in 2012 and 2015 and a runner-up finish in 2014.

However, Juventus aims to accomplish much more than just winning championships. Their overarching goal is to inspire and encourage players, especially young talents, while garnering the support of their community. The club’s progress has been driven by relentless dedication, yet they recognise the importance of external support in realising their vision.

They made a point of extending their appreciation to all those who have been a part of their journey and warmly welcome the continued support of sponsors, both existing and potential.

The club assures that sponsor contributions will be acknowledged prominently, serving as a testament to their profound gratitude.

And to the wider Kimberley community, Juventus extended its heartfelt thanks for the unwavering support they have received. The club’s achievements and their journey are not just about soccer but a testament to the spirit of community, teamwork, and dedication.

As they continue to write their own legacy, Juventus Masters Football Club is more than just a football team; it’s a source of inspiration and a symbol of what can be achieved when a community comes together in support of a shared passion.
