The race which was scheduled to kick off at 2pm at the Hartsvaal Laërskool in Jan Kempdorp had been postponed and will take place next Monday afternoon.

SOCIAL unrest in the Jan Kempdorp area has scuttled plans by Athletics Griqualand West (AGW) to stage the schools based Hartsvaal Cross Country League race on Tuesday afternoon.

AGW Cross County League chairperson Marisa Kruger said the race which was scheduled to kick off at 2pm at the Hartsvaal Laërskool in Jan Kempdorp had been postponed and will take place next Monday afternoon at the same time.

Kruger explained that, although the social unrest would probably have subsided by Tuesday afternoon, the organisers had decided to act and opted for a safety first approach.

Elsewhere, in the Diamond Fields area the association is racing full steam ahead with preparations to stage the Vodacom Meerkat 21.1km and the 10km Championships this coming weekend.

The weeknd’’s AGW Championships will be held as part of the Vodacom Meerkat Marathon on Saturday May 14, from 6:30am. The race will start at the Windhoek Draught Park in Kimberley.
