It is time to register for NC Chess Open Championship

Players below 1 400 FIDE/Chess SA rating will be allowed to play in the championship section at the organiser’s discretion

Northern Cape Chess (NCC) invites all players to the staging of its second Open championship tournament this year which will be held at the Northern Cape Technical High School auditorium from February 28-March 1.

The Northern Cape Open Chess Festival will consist of the provincial Open Chess Championships A and B sections which will be held concurrently with an Open Schools Section on February 29 for various age and gender groups (Under-7 Boys and Girls).

The competition proper will start with the A-section on February 28 and run until March 1. Players with a FIDE/Chess SA rating of 1 400 and higher will pay a registration fee of R350.

Players below 1 400 FIDE/Chess SA rating will be allowed to play in the championship section at the organiser’s discretion.

The B-section will run simultaneously. Players with FIDE/Chess SA rating of 1 399 and lower will pay a registration fee of R250.

The school’s section will be held on February 29. The fee for all scholars will be R150.

The organisers said scholars who cannot afford the tournament registration fee of R150 will be eligible to pay R80, provided that they present an affidavit witnessed by a Commissioner of Oaths.
