Inter-provincial hockey tournament under way in Stellenbosch

The Northern Cape Under-18 boys and girls were in action on the first day of the competition where some very good hockey was played on the day.

The National Inter-Provincial Hockey Tournament kicked off on Sunday in Stellenbosch and will run from June 26-29. Twelve boys and girls teams from the Northern Cape will be taking part in this hockey tournament this year.

The Northern Cape Under-18 boys and girls were in action on the first day of the competition where some very good hockey was played on the day. Unfortunately, the Northern Cape Under-18 A Boys lost 4-2 against the Eastern Gauteng team, while the Under-18 B Boys team took a beating and lost 6-0 to Boland B.

The Northern Cape Under-18 Girls played two games on Sunday, losing their first encounter 1-0 to Northern Gauteng B and then drawing 0-0 to the KZN Inland with Aleck Kruger earning the player of the Match award.

Meanwhile, the Under-12 Regional Tournament kicked off in Pietermaritzburg on Monday, with the Northern Cape Under-12 boys narrowly losing 2-1 in a close encounter to the Eastern Gauteng team, while the Under-12 girls started off with a 2-0 win against the Northern Free State.
