Motsepe Foundation Championship side Hungry Lions recently announced that they had managed to secure the signature of former Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City midfielder Amethyst Bradley ‘Surprise’ Ralani for the 2024/25 season.

Hungry Lions had been in a tussle with fellow Motsepe Foundation campaigners Upington City who were also keen to snag the playmaker who last played for Cape Town Spurs in the Betway Premier League, but has been a free agent after being let go by the club last season.

The Kimberley-based dribble wizard also spent eight seasons in Europe playing for clubs such as Helsingborgs IF, IFK Hässleholm, Landskrona BoIS and Lyngby BK.

The Hungry Lions social media pages announced the signing on Thursday welcoming the 37-year-old as he penned a deal with the club. Other social media sites soon picked up the news and shared the story.

According to reports, Ralani had been training with Hungry Lions during the past week, but the club was discreet, not wanting to make any announcement before the deal was on paper.

Hungry Lions chairman Henry Basie had said last week that one of the major challenges the team was facing in securing Ralani was capital, as finances are always a problem in the lower leagues. Unconfirmed reports suggest that Ralani has signed a one-year deal with the Northern Cape side in his return to his home province.

The first order of business for the experienced playmaker is to help his new team navigate their way out of the mid-table position they currently find themselves in. The team has had a mixed bag of results at the start of the current season with two wins, two draws and two defeats from their first six games, leaving them at eighth spot in the 16-team table.

On Saturday, the team hopes to start their upward climb when they take on 14th placed Pretoria Callies in their next League clash on Saturday, October 19 at Kimberley’s Suzuki Stadium. The match starts at 3.30pm.
